Tue, 21/06/2011 - 11:23 | by Steve Kevlin
The Porsche Carrera World Cup will run for the first time this coming weekend, on June 25 on Germany’s legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife..
Up to 200 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars will run in the six-lap, 70.2-mile race around the Nurburgring. The race will also count as a round in several other Porsche Carrera Cup championships, including the Porsche Carrera Cups in Germany, Scandinavia, France and Italy. The event will run just before the start of the 39th ADAC 24-hour race on the fearsome circuit in the Eifel mountains.
Porsche will split the field into two classes, with one division consisting of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars built between 2007 and 2009. Those cars have a 3.6-liter engine that produces from 400 hp to 420 hp. The second class will consist of 2010- and 2011-model-year GT3 Cup cars, which have a larger 3.8-liter engine producing 450 hp.
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB will be represented by the reigning 'Driver of the Year' - Peter Smallwood, racing journalist Chris Harris and series newboy, Steven Liquorish.
“I’m sure that this race will be an unforgettable experience for all pilots and spectators at the track,” said Hartmut Kristen, head of Porsche Motorsport.
