The high speed, 2.4 mile Goodwood Circuit was the venue for the ninth round of the PCGB Speed Championship last weekend. Despite the threat of rain all day, both practice and two timed runs were on a dry track with eleven drivers attending.

Five drivers ran in Class P4 with Donald Peach (924) having an excellent final run for third place in 105.28 seconds. Jonathan Thompson (944) bettered Donald’s time by just under a second to finish in second place with 104.39 seconds. Graham Rose (924S) had two closely timed runs in the afternoon to finish with a 1.28 second margin over Jonathan’s time and the P4 class win in 103.11 seconds. David Chivers (911E 3 litre) and David Hilton (911E 3 litre) made up Class P3 at Goodwood and they finished the day with less than a second between them. David Hilton’s fastest run earned him second place in 104.90 seconds while David Chivers collected first place trophy after finishing in 103.98 seconds.

Mark Porter (968) was sole entrant in Class P2 at Goodwood and despite having to withdraw from the second timed run because of transmission problems he still put in a time of 102.05 seconds. Three drivers entered Class P1 with Paul Howells (1973 911 RSR) putting in two exactly similar timed runs in the afternoon for third place in 102.12 seconds (including 2% for slicks). Mark Cowne had a good afternoon with a sub 100 seconds run to finish in second place in 99.74 seconds. Tim Barber (964 RS) had another impressive round this season after a final run of 96.95 seconds for fastest Porsche on the day and the class win.
